NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The FBI arrested a 53-year-old Queens man Wednesday who was caught on camera assaulting police officers at the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, according to a press release from the Department of Justice.
Prosecutors say Ralph Joseph Celentano III was part of the mob that broke into the West Terrace of the Capitol and that he fought with law enforcement while doing so.
Video stills released by the FBI show Celentano body checking a police officer from behind over a ledge.
The officer, a veteran of the Iraq war, said he was “blindsided” and remembers thinking, “I didn’t survive a war to go out like this.”
EZ Pass and license plate data indicates Celentano left his Broad Channel home for the capitol around 3 a.m. on Jan. 6 and returned the next day around 7:30 p.m.
He’s facing charges for assaulting officers, civil disorder, engaging in physical violence in a restricted area and related offenses.
Celentano is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at the federal courthouse in Brooklyn.
In the 14 months since Jan 6., more than 775 people have been arrested, according to the Department of Justice. The FBI is still working to track down more.
