NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A mother and her two-year-old child were attacked by at least one pit bull in East Harlem on Sunday morning, police said.

The dog attacked them around 11:40 a.m. in the lobby of a building at the Lincoln Houses, according to police.
EMS responded to 2155 Madison Ave. to find the injured mom and toddler.

The child, believed to be a girl, was bitten in the face and suffered puncture wounds and lacerations, police said. It's unclear what injuries the mother had.
Both of them were taken to Harlem Hospital, according to police. Their conditions weren't immediately known.
Police sources told PIX11 that the dog's owner—who may have had a second pit bull with her—fled into an elevator after the attack.
No arrests have been reported as of Monday.
