NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The death of 35-year-old Christina Yuna Lee this week may not have classified as a hate crime, but it hasn't stopped New York City's Asian-American community from being reminded of the anti-Asian violence it often experiences.
Lee's death came almost a month after another young Asian woman was murdered on a subway platform.
In both cases, the culprits suffered from mental health issues. As a result, some advocates have called on the city to provide more mental health resources rather than simply sending them to jail.
One such advocacy group is the Asian American Foundation.
On the latest episode of 1010 WINS In Depth, listen as we sit down with one of the representatives to discuss why those resources are so important. We also sit down with NYC Assemblyman Ron Kim to hear both his stance on the issue of anti-Asian hate, as well as some solutions he's already proposed to Mayor Eric Adams.
