
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD announced Sunday that they arrested a man they suspect carried out a brutal hammer attack and robbery at a Long Island City subway station late Thursday night.

William Blount, 57, faces charges of attempted murder, robbery and assault for the alleged attack.

At about 11:22, a man kicked a 57-year-old woman down the Queens Plaza E/M/R subway station stairs and started beating her with a hammer before fleeing with her purse.
The victim suffered a fractured skull and cuts on her head. EMS rushed her to New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she was in critical condition as of Thursday night.
Police did not provide an update on the victim.
