Cops were dispatched to the John Adams Houses on E. 152nd St. near Concord Ave. in Melrose around 12:40 p.m. Saturday for a report of an assault in progress.

Responding offices found Andres Huertas unresponsive inside of the apartment with trauma to his head and body, authorities said.

On Sunday, 49-year-old Felix Perez was arrested for his murder. According to the Daily News, Perez and Huertas were a couple who were known to have frequent arguments.

Police told the Daily News that evidence pointed to Perez as the assailant as well as a conversation Perez had with someone about the murder. Authorities also said a hammer with blood residue was recovered and believed to be the murder weapon, though more testing is needed to confirm.

Perez had no prior arrests and lived in the apartment where Huertas was killed.
