ISLIP, N.Y. -- Police were called to a Long Island school Thursday after multiple students refused to put on masks.

A parent called Suffolk police Thursday just before 10 a.m. — the first day of school — to Islip Middle School.

The parent wanted to file a report because their child and five other students were being held in an auditorium with a security guard because they wouldn’t mask up, police said.

"As discussed with our community previously, any district student who does not adhere to the mask mandate will be brought to an alternative location where students are advised to either put on a mask or wait for their parent/guardian to pick them up," Islip Superintendent Dennis O'Hara said in a statement to ABC7.

The district would not disclose what happened to the six students later in the day, but no students at Islip Middle School went without a mask Friday, according to ABC7.

A student the Islip’s high school did reportedly refuse mask-wearing Friday, and they were disallowed from classes.
