NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Police officers fatally shot a man they said stabbed an 8-year-old boy to death in Queens on the Fourth of July.
At about 5:30 p.m., officers were called to a fifth floor apartment located at 147-25 94th Ave. in Jamaica after a 29-year-old woman, who had been stabbed in the back, ran out pleading for help, NYPD officials said.
Officers arrived at the residence within three minutes and saw a man holding his 42-year-old father at knifepoint in a headlock over a kitchen sink. The man had allegedly already fatally stabbed the 8-year-old boy, who is believed to be his half-brother, NYPD Chief John Chell said at a press conference Thursday.
The 20-year-old man refused orders in both English and Spanish to drop the kitchen knife he was holding prompting police to fire a single shot, killing the suspect, authorities said.
Officers also rescued an 8-month-old baby girl from inside the apartment. She was not harmed in the incident, Chell added.
EMS sources told PIX11 that the boy had been stabbed over a dozen times.
Police recovered a knife at the scene.
An investigation remains ongoing.
