NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Police released a photo Thursday of a suspect connected to the fatal shooting of a man after a crash on the Cross Bronx Expressway last year.
Authorities are now seeking Joseph Espinal, 26, for questioning in connection with the incident.
Police received a call on Aug. 25, 2023, around 11 p.m. about a man shot on the Cross Bronx Expressway near Jerome Avenue.
Upon arrival, police found Fausto Rodriguez, 40, shot near the scene of a car crash.
EMS arrived at the scene, and Rodriguez was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital. He was later pronounced dead.
Further investigation revealed that the victim was involved in a non-injurious motor vehicle collision at the spot where he was shot.
Espinal, driving a stolen Ford Edge, crashed into Rodriguez from behind.
As both vehicles pulled over onto the shoulder, Rodriguez started recording the scene and the damage to his car.
Espinal and a passenger he was with fled the scene on foot, police said.
A short time later, Espinal returned in a gray Toyota RAV4, accompanied by another man. An argument ensued, escalated, and Rodriguez was shot.
The Toyota fled the scene and was later recovered unoccupied.
An investigation is ongoing.
