NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — An armed man ran from detectives in Brooklyn early Sunday morning, and responding officers struck him with a car while trying to cut him off, police said.
Detectives from Bronx narcotics were assigned to a summer violence reduction zone in Brownsville at about 3:30 a.m. when they observed a dispute in front of a store during which a man pointed a gun at a woman, according to NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell.

The detectives gave chase and pursued the man on foot. Chell said that the suspect threw his firearm as he ran.
Once the chase reached East New York Avenue and Ralph Avenue, a responding sergeant and police officer in an unmarked car attempted to cut the man off, striking him in the driveway of a storage facility.
The man was removed to an area hospital where he was sent to surgery, officials said.
This incident occurred just over an hour after police fatally shot a man carrying two knives in Bushwick, and police officials briefed the public on both incidents at a press conference Sunday morning.
An investigation is ongoing.
