NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police launched an investigation after what appears to be a human skeleton was discovered inside an abandoned building in East Harlem Wednesday afternoon.
According to law enforcement sources, at approximately 3:46 p.m. officials responded to a 911 call reporting possible human remains at 219 East 115th Street.
Upon arrival, responding officers located an "apparent skeleton" inside the building.
The owner of the building reportedly stumbled upon the remains while walking through the abandoned building.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) is conducting a forensic investigation to determine the precise cause and manner of death, as well as the identity of the remains. The NYPD has launched a parallel investigation.
