NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Manhattan postal worker was sentenced and her partner has pleaded guilty for stealing checks and credit cards from the mail for resale or personal use, authorities announced Friday.

Destiny Anderson, 36, was sentenced to three years of conditional discharge for grand larceny. Her partner Anthony Johnson, 34, pleaded guilty to grand larceny and is expected to be sentenced on June 27 to 1.5 - 3 years in state prison.

According to court documents, Johnson and Anderson conducted their scheme between May 14, 2021, and March 10, 2022.

Anderson was a United States Postal Service employee stationed in Hell's Kitchen. Her responsibilities included sorting mail and acting as a mail "relay" truck driver transporting bags of mail to designated locations within the 10019 zip code.

Prosecutors said that Anderson would identify and take envelopes containing credit cards or checks. One check was in the amount of over $387,000, and another was for $21,500. She did this in coordination with Johnson who would often encourage and direct Anderson to steal the envelopes.

Once the credit cards or checks were obtained, Anderson and Johnson would use them for their personal benefit or sell and attempt to sell them to other individuals, including through Instagram, officials said.

They would then be repaid through Zelle or CashApp. They used the stolen credit cards to purchase items at Yves Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, B&H Photo, BJ’s Wholesale, and Duane Reade, prosecutors said.

Each victim was reimbursed by their banks.

"Anthony Johnson and Destiny Anderson intercepted mail to steal checks and credit cards from hardworking Manhattanites for their own greed," District Attorney Bragg said. "Postal workers are expected to provide Americans with reliable mail service, and these defendants jeopardized that. We will hold accountable those who take advantage of their public positions to steal from others."
