Queens man, 25, arrested after drunk driving crash leaves 2 passengers injured, 1 critical

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 25-year-old man was arrested after crashing his vehicle while driving drunk, leaving two passengers injured, one critically, authorities said.

The crash occurred just before 5 a.m. on Saturday when the driver, Rogelio Mendoza-Hernandez, crashed the vehicle into a metal attenuator on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway at Flushing Avenue in Brooklyn, police said.

Two passengers, both 22-year-old women, were injured as a result. The backseat passenger suffered lacerations to her head while the front seat passenger suffered severe trauma to her torso, according to officials.

Both women were transferred to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue, one in stable condition, the latter in critical condition.

Mendoza-Hernandez was not injured as a result of the crash but was arrested at the scene and charged with two counts of vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license, among others.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
