NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Queens man sentenced to 25-years-to-life in prison after being found guilty of murdering a man during a dispute at a house party 11 years ago, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said Saturday.

"Despite being on the run for eight years, the defendant has now been held to account for committing this senseless murder," Katz said. "The family and loved ones of the victim, who had just become a father at the time of his death, were denied justice for more than a decade. Today, I hope they can finally put this sad chapter to rest knowing that the defendant will spend a lengthy term in prison for his criminal actions."

Back in December of 2011, 37-year-old Troy Thomas was at a party in South Richmond Hill when he got into an argument with 20-year-old Keith Frank, according to court documents.

During the dispute, Thomas took out a gun and shot Frank in the chest. Frank, who was a new father, was rushed to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

Thomas fled New York City to Guayana for years where he attempted to fight extradition. He was eventually brought back to Queens to stand trial where he was found guilty in May.
