NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD released surveillance footage Friday of two suspects who allegedly robbed a for-hire vehicle driver in Queens on Monday night, stealing thousands of dollars through his digital wallet.

According to police, the robbery happened at about 10:10 p.m. as the 55-year-old victim approached the intersection of 144th Avenue and 167th Street while driving two patrons in Springfield Gardens.

One of the suspects reportedly requested a change of destination and used the distraction to attempt to snatch the driver’s cell phone. Following a brief struggle, the suspect successfully took the phone.

Both suspects exited the car and entered a black SUV before fleeing the area to an unknown location.

The value of the stolen property is approximately $1,500 and the victim later discovered unauthorized charges totaling approximately $7,473 were made through his Apple Wallet, authorities said.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
