NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Rite Aid plans to shutter more than 150 stores nationwide, including over two dozen in the New York City area, after the drugstore chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last weekend.

The largest share of upcoming closures in the Tri-State will be on Long Island, where more than a dozen locations are impacted, according to a recent bankruptcy filing.

It's not yet clear how many stores will ultimately close but the Wall Street Journal reported last month that the company has proposed closing 400 to 500 of its 2,000 stores nationwide.

The company said last Sunday that its voluntary Chapter 11 process will allow it to speed up its plan to close underperforming stores.
