NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Authorities have called off the search for a missing swimmer at Brighton Beach on Wednesday.

Just after 5:20 a.m., police and fire officials responded to Brighton 6th Street and began their search after reports of a swimmer in the waters.

A caller reported the man had run into the water and not been seen since.

The FDNY put a diver in the water, while canvassing the area with a flying drone overhead, as they searched for nearly an hour.

An NYPD helicopter also scanned the water from above.

Both the NYPD and FDNY had boats in the water.

The diver was pulled out of the water at around 6:30 a.m. when no victim located.

Lifeguards are not on duty until 10 a.m. Swimming had not been permitted on city beaches for the past four days due to rip current concerns, but the red flags were lifted Wednesday morning.

Ocean conditions have been at their calmest in days since Ernesto-fueled rough waters in the area.
