Scissor-wielding serial thief steals $7K in cell phones from NYC stores: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A scissor-wielding serial thief stole five cell phones valued at a total of $7,000 from five different stores in the Bronx and Manhattan, the NYPD said Thursday.

The thief first hit a T-Mobile store on East Burnside Avenue in the Fordham Heights section of the Bronx around 10 a.m. on Feb. 22, using a pair of scissors to cut a $2,000 Samsung Galaxy Z cell phone from a display, police said.

Nearly a month later, around 7 p.m. on March 18, the thief walked into a T-Mobile store on River Avenue in the Melrose section of the Bronx and removed a $1,300 Samsung Galaxy Note Ultra cell phone from a display, the NYPD said.

The thief then threatened to stab anyone who stopped him from leaving with a pair of scissors he was holding, according to police.

Two days later, around 4:10 p.m. on March 20, the thief stole a $1,200 Samsung Galaxy 21 Ultra cell phone from an AT&T store on Broadway in lower Manhattan, police said.

On March 31 around noon, meanwhile, the thief stole a $1,400 Samsung Galaxy cell phone from a T-Mobile store on East 204th Street in the Jerome Park section of the Bronx, the NYPD said.

Less than two hours later, around 1:30 p.m., the thief stole a $1,100 iPhone 12 from a display inside a T-Mobile store on West Kingsbridge Road in the Kingsbridge Heights section of the Bronx, police said.

The thief was last seen wearing a dark knit hat, a black hooded jacket, blue jeans and an orange mask, the NYPD said.
