NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A human skeleton was found in a Queens home basement under construction, the city medical examiner confirmed on Tuesday.
According to the medical examiner’s forensic anthropologists, the bones have been confirmed to be of a human, a spokeswoman told Daily News.
The skeleton was found on Monday while a construction cleaning crew were in the basement of the home on 120th Street near Jamaica Avenue in Richmond Hill, police said.
Photos by a Daily News photographer show a yellowish skull and other bones with dirt on it.
No further details were given about the skeleton.
The city received rat complaints for a building where other issues were found.
An inspection in November revealed the metal cellar hatch doors on the sidewalk, once sealed with concrete, were broken, posing a tripping hazard, according to the Daily News.
The long-abandoned building wasn't properly closed, with a collapsed roof visible from a nearby elevated train line.
The Department of Buildings issued violations that remain unaddressed.
The building is now boarded up as a rehabilitation project starts.
