PARAMUS, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Tri-State supermarket company Stew Leonard's voluntarily recalled two bakery-department products on Friday because they might contain undeclared allergens.
Stew Leonard’s apple crisp made with honeycrisp apples (both half and whole pieces) may contain undeclared milk, while its no sugar added apple pie may contain undeclared eggs.
Both products were sold in the Stew Leonard's bakery department between Aug. 28 and March 8 at all seven of its locations, the supermarket company said.
Stew Leonard's has locations in East Meadow, Farmingdale and Yonkers, New York; Paramus, New Jersey; and Danbury, Norwalk and Newington, Connecticut.
The recall was initiated following the discovery that the products containing milk and eggs were distributed in packaging that did not list the presence of the allergens.
Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to either milk or eggs run the risk of a serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume these products. To date, no illnesses have been reported.
The supermarket company is working with the Connecticut Department of Consumer Production to identify the cause of the labeling mistake.
Consumers who have purchased these products are encouraged to discard them, or bring them to a Stew Leonard's customer desk for a full refund.
