NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A stray bullet grazed a 70-year-old woman cheek as she was was riding a bus in Brooklyn on Tuesday, the NYPD said.
The woman was on a B25 bus traveling west on Fulton Street, at Tompkins Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant, around 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday when the bullet hit her, NYPD Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison said at a news conference.
A suspect wearing a red or orange jacket fired several shots outside of the bus, one of which flew into the bus and hit the woman, Harrison said. The woman does not appear to have been the intended target, he noted.
The woman was conscious and alert inside the bus when emergency responders arrived, the NYPD said. She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and was expected to survive.
The suspect hadn't been arrested as of Tuesday evening, police said. An investigation is ongoing.
