NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 73-year-old man's walking aid was weaponized -- against himself -- early Saturday morning on a train traveling through upper Manhattan.

The cane-carrying man was a a passenger on a downtown 1 train around 3:30 a.m. when he was approached by another male, in his twenties/thirties, police said.


The stranger grabbed the man's cane and hit him in the head with it.

The suspect then fled from the 96th Street station. He remains at-large.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside hospital where he was treated for bruising and swelling to his face and head. He was listed in stable condition.
