NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A subway rider suffered a head injury after he fell to the ground while getting his stolen phone back from a robber at a station in the Bronx, police said Friday.

The NYPD released a surveillance image of the suspect in Thursday morning's robbery aboard a northbound 4 train in Jerome Park.

The 27-year-old victim was riding the train at 6:15 a.m. when a man came up and snatched his phone away. The thief then fled with it at the Bedford Park Boulevard–Lehman College station.

The victim followed him and tried to get the phone back, leading to a struggle between them on the platform.

The victim was able to retrieve the phone—but not before crashing to the ground and hitting his head, police said.

The thief fled empty-handed, while the victim transported himself to Montefiore Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
