NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A subway rider was stabbed in the head Sunday night in an unprovoked attack aboard a train in the Financial District, police said Monday as they searched for the assailant.

The victim was on a southbound R-line train at the Rector Street station around 8:20 p.m. when he was assaulted by another man.

The attacker came up and stabbed him in the head, according to police, who called the stabbing completely unprovoked.

The victim was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue. He is expected to survive his injuries.

No description or images have been released of the suspect, who remained at large Monday.

It's just the latest unprovoked attack in the subway. Last week, a 74-year-old man suffered multiple fractures when he was shoved onto the tracks at an Upper East Side station by a screaming man who thought the victim had said something to him. "He was so fast, he came around the other side, he opened his eyes wide," the victim said.
