VIDEO: Attempted murder suspect drags NYPD officer with car during traffic stop

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Queens man who was released without bail after he allegedly shot another man during a robbery in February dragged an NYPD officer with his car during a traffic stop in Brooklyn on Friday, police said.

Takim Newson, 32, was arrested on Long Island after body camera footage caught him reversing his vehicle during a car stop in Brooklyn's 71st Precinct — which includes parts of Crown Heights, Wingate and Prospect-Lefferts Gardens — around 3:50 a.m. on Friday, the NYPD said.

"You're not under arrest. I'm just going to ask you to step out real quick," the NYPD officer who pulled Newson over can be heard saying. "We're trying to make sure you're okay to drive."

Seconds later, Newson reverses his car, dragging the officer into the street, the footage shows.

NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea earlier this month said Newson had been arrested in North Carolina after he allegedly shot another man in the groin during a robbery attempt in February.

On Friday, the department said he was released without bail after that arrest.

After he dragged the officer with his car, Newson allegedly drove to Far Rockaway, where he broke into an apartment and told the woman inside he had a gun, the New York Post reported, citing police sources.

Thirty minutes later, he allegedly stole a Jaguar that a driver had left running outside a home on Beach 13th Street, according to the outlet.

Suffolk County police reportedly arrested him around 3 p.m. on Friday after identifying the Jaguar.

The police officer Newson allegedly dragged with his car was hospitalized with cuts on his knees and elbows, but was "expected to be OK," the outlet reported.

Newson's attorney information wasn't immediately available Friday.
