NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A 69-year-old man was walking in Rego Park on Thursday when he was ambushed by robbers who beat him and fled in a getaway van, police said.

The NYPD released surveillance video Friday of the three suspects, as well as a photo of the red minivan they're believed to have fled in after the vicious attack.

The victim was out walking on Fitchett Street, near 63rd Drive, around 3:40 a.m. when two men approached and started beating him, police said.

The thieves repeatedly punched the victim in the face and stole his iPhone 14, wallet and backpack. They then fled in a red minivan driven by a third man, police said.

Less than an hour after the attack, the three suspects allegedly tried to use the victim's stolen credit card to purchase items at a smoke shop on East Moshulu Parkway North in the Norwood section of the Bronx.

Surveillance video from the smoke shop shows the three of them at the register, police said.
