NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Another summer day has enveloped New York City in heat, with RealFeel temperatures surpassing triple-digits ahead of possible afternoon and evening thunderstorms across the Tri-State.

Friday afternoon will be breezy, hot and humid with a mixture of sun and clouds, AccuWeather said. The high will approach the July 25 record of 97—set in 1999—though it will feel over 100 in the city.
“If you haven't been outside yet...don’t!” the NYC mayor’s office wrote. “We’re under a Heat Advisory today so try to stay inside if you can with good A/C, drink plenty of water, and take breaks from the heat if you go outside.”
The heat advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. for the city, while northeastern New Jersey is under an extreme heat warning during the same timeframe, AccuWeather said. Cooling centers are open across the five boroughs, and locations can be viewed online.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation also issued an air quality health advisory for ozone in NYC and Rockland, Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk counties, marking it as unhealthy for sensitive groups.
A strong thunderstorm or two late in the afternoon and early evening could produce downpours and damaging winds, AccuWeather warned.
The National Weather Service said that severe storms are possible, with the biggest threat coming from wind gusts of 58 mph or greater. Localized flash flooding is also a threat in heavier downpours.
“The [NWS Storm Prediction Center] is monitoring conditions for a potential severe thunderstorm watch this afternoon as thunderstorms are beginning to develop to our northwest,” the NWS said just after 1 p.m. “The current probability of a severe thunderstorm watch issuance is 60 percent.”

According to AccuWeather, the night should be partly cloudy, warm and still humid with a low of 74.
The rest of the weekend should be hot but not dangerously so, the forecaster said, with temperatures reaching a high of 86 on Saturday alongside clouds, sun and lower humidity.
But storms are expected to return Sunday, which will be mostly cloudy and humid with a couple of heavy thunderstorms that could bring damaging wind gusts or flooding downpours. The high will be 82.
Things will heat up once again to kick off the work week, with a high of 90 on a mostly sunny Monday, AccuWeather said.
Tuesday will bring even more heat and humidity, with highs in the lower 90s. An afternoon thunderstorm cannot be ruled out.
