NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 19-month-old boy was mauled to death by his family's pet dog in Brooklyn on Tuesday night — and his father was placed under arrest, police said.

The boy was attacked by the Rottweiler in a first-floor apartment on E. 17th Street, near Cortelyou Road, in Flatbush shortly before 10:45 p.m. Officers responding to a 911 call found the boy bleeding heavily with bite wounds to his neck and shoulder, police said.

The child was transported to Maimonides Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The toddler's siblings, who are 11 and 9 years old, had been left to watch the boy while their parents were at work, according to sources.

The dog was locked inside of a bathroom before police arrived, according to the NYPD.

Vernon Foster, the toddler's 30-year-old father, was arrested Wednesday in connection to the tragedy, police sources said. He was charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
