Prosecutors accused Baimadajie Angwang, 35, of using his position as a police officer in Queens to spy on Tibetan New Yorkers for the Chinese government and convey information on the inner workings of the NYPD.

Angwang will stand trial starting Sept. 12, just under two years after his 2020 arrest.

Angwang received asylum in the U.S. after claiming he was tortured by the Chinese government for his Tibetan heritage.

He joined the Marine Corps and was employed by the U.S. Army Reserves where he held a “secret” level security clearance.

He joined the NYPD in 2014, where he used his fluency in Mandarin to serve as a community liaison.

He was discharged from the Army Reserves and suspended with pay by the NYPD after his arrest.
