NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — With just one week to go until the return of the Tribeca Festival, founders Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal have a lot to look forward to after a pandemic hiatus.
“I was thinking, it was two years, over two years. It’s great to be out, get back,” De Niro told 1010 WINS.
The festival will kick off with a screening of the Jennifer Lopez documentary “Halftime” at the United Palace in Washington Heights.
“It's an amazing story of an artist and her perseverance,” Rosenthal added. “She's a local and we're proud to tell her story.”
This year, the Tribeca Festival will feature several new additions including a music lounge in Brooklyn with an exciting line-up of performances, industry panels and experiences hosted at Baby’s All Right, a music venue in Williamsburg.
“We've done an ASCAP lounge two years ago and always look for ways to bring it back,” Rosenthal said. “We were able to find Baby’s All Right, which is a great venue and they were wonderful in working with us. We have a wonderful, very talented music programmer who is just on the cutting edge of all the new music that's going on in New York. We're gonna have some fun.”
Along with the music lounge, another addition to the festival this year is the addition of immersive video games, something both Rosenthal and De Niro are excited to see in action.
“Those virtual video games where you’re totally immersed in them, I pad myself up and just go for it,” De Niro said.
For Rosenthal, having the chance to hear talks from some of the industry’s most influential people, like Tyler Perry, JR. and Cynthia Erivo, is something to look forward to.
“You don't see them in a lot of places and they are really artists who are working in an interdisciplinary way,” Rosenthal said.
The Tribeca Festival runs from June 8-19. For more information and tickets, visit www.tribecafilm.com.
