NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A United Airlines flight from Houston slated for New York City had to evacuate before departure Sunday morning due to a reported engine issue, according to the FAA and airline.
Flight 1382 aborted takeoff from George Bush Intercontinental Airport at about 8:35 a.m., the FAA said. The flight was bound for LaGuardia Airport.
The airline said that it “received an indication about one engine and halted the takeoff while still on the runway.”
There were 104 passengers and five crew members aboard the Airbus A319, and everyone exited the aircraft on the runway via a combination of slides and stairs, United said.
Once off the plane everyone was bused to the terminal.
The Houston Fire Department responded to the scene and aided in the deplaning operation. The agency said that it did not put out a fire as part of their response,
Video of the incident from passengers shows smoke and flames spitting from one of the aircraft wings.
“We are aware of the video,” the Houston Fire Department said on social media. “When our units arrived, there was no fire to put out.”
United organized a different aircraft to take its customers to their destination at 2 p.m. CT.
The FAA is investigating.
