NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York City residents that fled as the pandemic hit and lockdowns regulations were put in place are now returning, mail forwarding data from USPS suggests.
According to a report from Business Insider, Jefferies analysts led by Jonathan Petersen said in a note this week that 4.3 percent of households in Manhattan moved out during the pandemic.
There was another increase of 0.31 percent occupancy in the city through May and June, with "all indications point to further acceleration into July."
The move back into New York and other metropolitan cities could be tied to companies encouraging employees to return to offices, Jefferies said.
The move has even left some residents in "a scramble for apartments" the note added.
Additional mail forwarding data from USPS suggests that people have also begun returning to other cities such as Boston while cities including Raleigh, Charlotte, and Austin actually saw an increase in their occupancies during the pandemic.
