NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – An 84-year-old Upper West Side woman died after she was struck by a passenger van about a block from her home, police said Wednesday.

The victim, Young J. Kwon, was crossing Amsterdam Avenue at West 96th Street around 7:30 p.m. Sunday when she was hit by a Mercedes-Benz Metris headed up the avenue, according to police.

Kwon suffered neck and back pain, and she was initially transported in stable condition to Mount Sinai Morningside.

However, her condition worsened and “became life-threatening” as she was being cared for at the hospital, police said.

She died from her injuries later that night.

A 58-year-old man driving the van remained at the scene and was not injured, police said.

The NYPD is investigating the crash.
