NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Mayor Bill de Blasio on Tuesday announced a new mask policy for city workers that will go into effect next week.

Masks and social distancing will no longer be required for vaccinated workers in city offices, starting July 6.

"Unvaccinated workers — people who are not yet vaccinated, people who interact regularly with the public — will still be wearing masks and still be maintaining distance," de Blasio said.

The new rules will be implemented in all city agencies.

"We want to do this because it's the right time to to do it, people are ready, we want to do this to set the pace for everyone else," de Blasio said.

The mayor said he believes all city workers will be back in their offices by September.

"By September, we'd like to see everyone in our offices back to normal," de Blasio said. "Now that's going to be, of course, following CDC and state guidance, and we expect that to keep evolving, but we think we're on that track right now that people will be back into their offices, basically, as they were before the pandemic and that's really, really good news for everyone."
