NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – The race for honorary New York City dog mayor has officially started last week with 16 canine candidates competing for the title.
The election, which began on July 24, will award the prestigious title of "honorary dog mayor of NYC" to the winner, while the runner-up will be named "honorary deputy dog mayor."
Voters from around the world can participate in the election through social media platforms, including Instagram Stories, Facebook group polls, and X polls.
The 2nd biannual dog mayor elections will feature 15 voting rounds. The final two candidates will compete on Nov. 4, with the victorious dog serving a two-year term.

Last year, Sally Long Dog made history as the very first female dog mayor of New York City. With Sally now out of the race, the field is open for New York City’s four-legged contenders.
Photos of the candidates representing all five boroughs can be found on the official dogmayornyc website.
Dog lovers and New Yorkers are encouraged to participate and support their favorite “canine-didates.”
