NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD is trying to figure out who stole a "Welcome to Ozone Park" sign that was swiped this week just a day after it was installed.
Police said the sign, located at 149th Street and Cross Bay Boulevard, was gone on Tuesday.
City Councilman Eric Ulrich, who attended the unveiling ceremony on Monday, said the NYPD is collecting surveillance video from the surrounding area to try to identify any suspects.
Ulrich said the Queens district attorney's office has also been contacted.
"Truly is a shame," he said of the theft.
Ulrich told the Queens Daily Eagle that whoever is responsible is a "real sicko."
The NYPD's 106th Precinct is asking anyone with information to call 718-845-2261.
