Woman, 57, fatally shot in face during attempted robbery in Chinatown condo building

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A woman was fatally shot in the face during an attempted robbery Monday night at the Chinatown condo building where she lived, police said.

Ying Zhu Liu was shot around 11 p.m. inside 44 Market St., a condo building steps from the Manhattan Bridge.

Liu suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was already unresponsive by the time officers arrived, police said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting happened during an attempted robbery, police said.

Two men followed her husband into the building and up an elevator to the eighth floor hallway, according to police. During the commotion, Liu went out to the hallway to intervene and was shot.

Two men, who were wearing all black, fled the scene and remained at large Tuesday. No description of them has been released.

Police were reviewing surveillance footage from inside and outside the building as the investigation continued.
