NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are searching for a suspect who punched a 72-year-old woman at the elevator of a Bronx subway station near Yankee Stadium in an unprovoked attack Thursday evening, authorities said.
At approximately 7:15 p.m., the woman was exiting the elevator at the East 161st Street subway station when the suspect began repeatedly striking the victim with a closed fist in the face, causing bruising and swelling, officials said.
The suspect then fled on foot to parts unknown.
The victim sustained a minor laceration under the eye and was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in stable condition.
The attacker is as a woman approximately 35 to 40 years of age and was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, tan pants, black sandals, black cover around her head and carrying a black book bag.
