NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A 75-year-old woman was viciously attacked—stabbed multiple times in the head—by a man who followed her onto a Bronx elevator, police said Monday.

The unprovoked stabbing in Fordham Heights around 11:30 a.m. Sunday left the victim with stab wounds to her head and face.

She was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital and is expected to survive her injuries.

Police believe the stabber followed the victim into her building on Morris Avenue, near East Burnside Avenue, and then onto the elevator.

The suspect—Edwin Rios, 38—was charged with attempted murder.

It's unclear if the victim and suspect are known to each other in any way.
