NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police released a photo Tuesday of a minivan after an 82-year-old woman was targeted in a "mechanic' scam by suspects outside the Staten Island Mall last week.

It occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, as the victim was exiting a parking spot at 2873 Richmond Ave. in New Springville.

According to officials, she was flagged down by the two suspects in a white Chrysler minivan bearing unknown Pennsylvania license plates.

The suspects falsely claimed to be mechanics and convinced the victim that she had run over something, insisting her vehicle needed immediate repairs, authorities said.

The victim was then persuaded to withdraw $3,800 from her bank which the suspects took before fleeing the location in the minivan.

The NYPD is now seeking the public's help to identify the suspects and the vehicle.
