NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A woman was arrested on Thursday after leaving children inside an unpowered car during hot weather in the Bronx, police said.
The children were found inside the car at 10:40 p.m. on West 183rd Street, between Andrews and University avenues. The car was double-parked and the engine was not running, according to police.
Haiyah Agoro, 34, was charged with one count of acting in a manner injurious to a child under the age of 17.
Outside temperatures were in the mid-80s at the time, but with the car's interior quickly heating up, the conditions became dangerous.
The NYPD did not disclose the exact number or ages of the children, only confirming that there were more than one and that all were under the age of 17.
The children were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
The relationship between Agoro and the children was not immediately clear.
