NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A woman was charged with attempted murder after she allegedly stabbed a shopper at Macy’s Herald Square in an apparently random attack Thursday afternoon.

Holiday shoppers were left shaken after the burst of violence around 3:15 p.m. at the iconic Midtown department store.

The 38-year-old victim was shopping on the seventh floor, between women’s coats and plus-sized clothing, when she was stabbed, police said.

She suffered several stab wounds to her back and a cut to the arm. She was hospitalized in stable condition at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.

The 43-year-old suspect—Kerri Aherne, of Massachusetts—was arrested several hours later on the attempted murder charge, as well as charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

This was the second attack at the Macy’s flagship store in the past month. In November, a 71-year-old man was bashed in the head several times by another shopper.

In a statement Thursday, a spokesperson for Macy’s said: "We are deeply saddened about the incident that took place today as the safety of our customers and colleagues is our top priority. We kindly defer any further questions to the local authorities."
