NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A man choked a woman in a sex attack near Brooklyn's Prospect Park before bystanders intervened and scared him off, police said Thursday as they released images of a suspect.

The 36-year-old victim was walking on Clarkson Avenue, between Flatbush and Bedford avenues, in Prospect Lefferts Gardens on the night of Aug. 28 when a man struck up a conversation with her.

As she was talking with him around 9:40 p.m., he suddenly pushed her to the ground and climbed on top of her, police said.

He then grabbed her neck with one of his hands and choked her as he tried to expose his penis, according to cops.

The assault caught the attention of bystanders, who came to the woman's aid, police said.

The man fled and was last seen headed eastbound towards Bedford Avenue.

The victim suffered minor physical injuries and declined further medical attention at the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
