Upon arrival, officials encountered 70-year-old Brenda Whidbee with trauma to the body. EMS transported her to Brookdale Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation determined that the 30-year-old Layla Adredini was operating a 2003 White Ford Explorer when she mounted the sidewalk and hit a 50-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman.

Adredini fled into 2185 Pacific Street where good Samaritans held her until police arrived on the scene.

The 50-year-old man was not on scene when police arrived.

Adredini was taken into custody at the scene. She is facing murder and attempted murder charges in connection to the fatal collision, according to the NYPD.

The investigation remains ongoing.
