NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A woman narrowly escaped serious injury after she was shoved onto subway tracks in Tribeca late Tuesday in an unprovoked attack, police said.

The 34-year-old victim had just entered the Chambers Street 1/2/3 station and was waiting on the platform around 11:10 p.m. when a man pushed her to the roadbed.

The victim and her attacker don't know each other, and the attack was entirely unprovoked, according to police.

No train was arriving at the time of the shove. Bystanders rushed to help the woman back onto the tracks.

She was transported to New York-Presbyterian Hospital with a minor leg injury.

The suspect, believed to be in his 40s, quickly ran from the scene, police said.

Detectives were canvassing for surveillance video at the station overnight. The NYPD said it’d put out images of the suspect when they become available.
