NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A woman was spat on and called an anti-Asian slur as she docked a Citi Bike in Manhattan, police said Friday as they released a surveillance image of a suspect.

The 52-year-old victim was docking the Citi Bike at 10th Avenue and Avenue A in the East Village on the afternoon of July 20 when she was targeted, according to police.

The assailant hurled an anti-Asian expletive at the woman and spat in her face before fleeing, police said.

The incident is being investigated as a hate crime.

NYPD statistics released earlier this week show anti-Asian hate crimes are up 363% in the city in 2021 through Aug. 1. A total of 111 incidents have been reported over that time period this year, compared to 24 incidents last year.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
