NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Police are investigating after an innocent bystander was struck by a stray bullet when a shooting erupted in East Harlem Sunday night, authorities said.
Law enforcement sources told the New York Post that just before 7:30 p.m., a 43-year-old woman was shot in the leg near E. 132nd Street and Madison Avenue when two gangs exchanged gunfire.
Officials believe the woman was not the intended target.
She was taken to Harlem Hospital in stable condition.
Police recovered 17 shell casings at the scene, according to the report.
No arrests were made and an investigation is ongoing.
