David Poncurak, 43, entered his guilty plea as the driver in the crash Tuesday for driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in Westchester County Court.

Poncurak allegedly was drunk behind the wheel of his car when he slammed into the Yonkers barbershop back on July 23 at about 8:30 a.m. The crash trapped both victims under his car — seriously injuring them — with bystanders and cops springing to action to lift the vehicle and free the woman and her infant.

The two were transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, where the mother underwent surgery for a fractured femur. The infant suffered a fractured skull and severe burns, according to prosecutors.

“David Poncurak’s decision to drive under the influence of alcohol and drugs put a mother and her infant child at severe risk,” District Attorney Miriam Rocah said in a statement.

“I applaud the extraordinary work of the Yonkers Police Department, the bystanders, and the ambulance crew who sprang into action to assist during this harrowing event,” Rocah added. “These victims are alive today because of the heroic efforts of these brave individuals.”

Poncurak is scheduled to be sentenced on January 13, 2022.
