John Escorcia-Arroyo, of Westhampton, left the Dream nightclub in Hampton Bays and jumped into the Shinnecock Canal, according to Southampton Town police.

A woman who was with Escorcia-Arroyo called police shortly after 2 a.m. and told them he went missing while attempting to swim across the canal.

She told police that she lost sight of him after "a few minutes." She tried to look for him on her own for several minutes before contacting cops.

Southampton Town patrol units responded and were joined in the search by a number of local agencies, as well as the U.S. Coast Guard.

Southampton bay constables and the Coast Guard continued searching for Escorcia-Arroyo later Thursday morning. He hadn’t been located as of 8 a.m.
