NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Connecticut State Police charged an 18-year-old man with manslaughter early Saturday morning after he called 911 to report that he stabbed a family member multiple times.
State Troopers and EMS arrived on the scene – a residence in Essex, CT – and found the victim laying on the floor with multiple stab wounds to his chest and back, Connecticut State Police said.
EMS pronounced the victim dead at the scene at 1:16 a.m., officials said.
Matthew Craig, 18, intervened in a physical domestic dispute between the male victim and a woman in the home, stabbing him, according to interviews conducted with the suspect and two witnesses who were present at the scene.
A child was in the home at the time of the stabbing, prompting Craig to be charged with risk of injury to a child in addition to first-degree manslaughter, police said.
Craig was held on a $250,000 bond and was transported to Hartford Correctional Center, Connecticut State Police said. He will appear in court on Oct. 30.
