
PATERSON, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A 21-year-old man was charged in connection to a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in Paterson on Monday, authorities announced.
Shakim Adams was charged with leaving the scene of an accident which has a sentencing range of 5 to 10 years imprisonment, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes said.
At approximately 8:49 a.m., the Paterson Police Department received a call regarding a person struck by a motor vehicle in the area of Alabama Avenue and Trenton Avenue.
Upon arrival, patrol units found the victim, Abel Herrera, a 59-year-old with significant injuries. Herrera was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
According to an investigation, a green Chevy Trailblazer driven by Adams struck the victim and fled the area.
Adams is currently in custody awaiting his first appearance at Central Judicial Processing.
